So I think I should start with the most local of all problems: the striking truck drivers. It started last week in Sicily and now it's spread to the peninsula. Truckers are upset with the high gas prices due to a new tax on diesel fuel that started on January 1. Now trucks everywhere are stopping in solidarity. Yesterday it was bad as they were even stopping trucks that did not want to join their strike. Panic buying of fuel started Monday night and this means that most gas stations are dry. And this strike means they won't be getting anything for a while. This a time when I'm reminded why it's good to live in town. I can walk or ride my bike to almost everywhere. Of course I will need this trucks to move for my work and some of my food!
There were pictures of empty store shelves on the news but I don't believe the news anymore. During the mudslides they used old footage that had nothing to do with what happened this year. Then just recently they all played films that was supposed to from the Concordia as it hit the rocks. Really it was some old film from a boat in the Pacific. How could all three stations (TG1,TG3, and TG5) run videos of something on YouTube and call it news?!?!
